My belief is that mental and emotional health are all about balance. Whether I’m working with couples, adults, youth or kids – we find that something is “off,” and by working together to help restore balance, we move towards your goals.
With couples, my approach is the “Gottman Method,” recognized by many as the most effective therapy model for couples. I help couples manage conflict, deepen their friendship and intimacy, and create shared meaning in their lives. Drs. John and Julie Gottman helped us all recognize that one of the most important keys to long-standing contentment in a relationship (even when there’s significant conflict!) is learning how to repair the emotional harm partners have caused for one another. Couples therapy, believe it or not, can be an enjoyable and deeply healing process.
My training with the Gottman Institute also has equipped me to work skillfully with parents coping with the transition to parenthood and assist you in learning effective parenting skills. I offer “Bringing Baby Home” workshops to help strengthen a couples’ relationships during this challenging chapter of family life. I also enjoy work with moms, before or after birth (or both!).
Finally, I have substantial experience working with survivors of domestic violence and sexual assault. I am both LGBTQ and Polyamory friendly and aware of the dynamics of being part of those communities. I also work with a trained therapy dog named Phoenix. She is a Rottweiler, German Shepherd mix who is small for both breeds. I like to call her my portable Rottie. She can be a great comfort to people when things get hard in therapy and loves to come to work and see everyone.
Because finding the right therapist is such an important part of making sure you get what you need out of therapy, I offer a free 30 minute consultation to see if we are a good fit. My standard fees are $65 for a 50 minute session or $95 for an 80 minute session (often helpful with couples and families). I also offer sliding scale fees for those in need and reserve half my hours for sliding scale clients.
