My early experience of being raised as an only child were mediating my parent’s relationship and seeking understanding from adults. These early experiences taught me that we all have the need to connect in a meaningful way. Many times that connection we have with our love ones gets broken.
I come along side couples, individuals, and adolescents to help each member understand where these connections/patterns are breaking down; then repair and healthy connection can be obtained through the therapeutic process. I work with younger children utilizing child centered play since they do not have the language to express their feelings and inner world. Here are the primary approaches I utilize in my counseling practice:
- Cognitive Behavior Therapy
- Attachment-Focused Family Therapy
- Child Centered Play Therapy
- Emotionally Focused Couples Therapy
I have a Master’s degree in Marriage, Couples and Family Counseling from George Fox University and over 25 years’ experience with culturally diverse children and their families. Experiences include: worked with drug affected youth in treatment settings; taught middle school in Houston, Texas; volunteered on a crisis/suicidal hotline, advocated for special needs children in the educational and medical system, and counseled traumatized youth in the foster care system.
Additionally, I embrace a holistic way of living including yoga, meditation, and clean eating that are incorporated into the treatment plan. My latest experience includes becoming a stepmom and learning how to balance being part of a blended family.
My standard fee for a 50 minute session is $75.00. I do provide a generous sliding scale fee for those in financial need. I do not accept insurance at this time.
