Many of us are unaware that we are carrying around the echoes of traumatic experiences in our lives. Unacknowledged trauma can contribute to feeling ill a lot of the time, or compulsively collecting things in our homes, or end up making our career and relationship decisions for us. If this sounds familiar to you and you are ready to take the next step and seek professional assistance, I am here for you.
Our work will be grounded in the understanding that you are the expert in your own lived experiences. Your strength and resilience has led you to this point, and my role will be to assist you in your journey to understanding your own traumas better, and not letting them control your life.
I have worked in case management for many years and am passionate about assisting those in helping professions, such as case managers, outreach workers, home visitors, and educators. Helpers are told often to guard against “burnout,” the effect of witnessing the trauma their clients and students are going through, day in and day out, but having only a limited scope of influence to affect the situation. I would be honored to work with you to mitigate the effects of secondary trauma.
Offsite, I co-facilitate a structured group called “Buried in Treasures” for people who find themselves overwhelmed by their possessions, and I also work with clients experiencing these issues one-on-one at Wise Counsel. If you or a loved one are having difficulty with excessive acquiring, collecting, and saving items to the point that it is impacting quality of life, give me a call. I offer a supportive, nonjudgmental environment in which we can explore solutions together.
I am registered LPC intern training in Sensorimotor Psychotherapy, also called Somatic Therapy. The word “somatic” is derived from the Greek word “soma” which means living body. Somatic therapy is a holistic therapy that studies the relationship between the mind and body and works to unlock symptoms of trauma held in the body and brain that can be hard to reach in any other way. I also use methods from Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Solution-Focused Brief Therapy, Narrative Therapy, and other holistic approaches, all with the goal of keeping our work focused on your specific goals and strengths.
I look forward to hearing from you.
